AFFORDABLE FAMILY HOUSING PROJECTS
Los Angeles County ranks as the second most expensive area in the United Sates for the cost of housing. This is true for both renters and owners. In Historic Filipinotown, many families spend over half their salary on housing, leaving them little for other necessities. Seeking to alleviate the difficulties of its constituents, SIPA  ventured into the arena of community economic development, specifically affordable housing and small business.

Normandie Village, SIPA’s first affordable housing project was completed in 1998. The 16-unit complex, complete with a courtyard containing a children’s playground and an adjacent community room has been awarded the National Special Projects Award by the Urban Land Institute

In 2004, Sacatella Village, a 76-unit complex in Silverlake named in reference to the Indian word for the creek that ran through the area many years ago, opened its doors to low income families. SIPA has also been providing residents of its projects with on-site programs including case management and health and community-issue workshops.

This November of 2007 will see the completion of the Magnolia on Lake project, a 45-unit affordable, multi-family housing. SIPA is happy to announce that tenant outreach and marketing activities of the project will commence by fall.

Currently involved in 3 other property development projects, SIPA anticipates that commercial and market-rate components of the projects will break ground in late 2008.
